PARANORMAL CAUGHT ON CAMERA
For more than two decades, Dan Sturges has investigated reports of unexplained phenomena with a combination of curiosity, skepticism, technology, and old-fashioned fieldwork. Long before becoming a familiar face to television audiences, Dan had already investigated some of New York City's most historic—and reportedly haunted—locations, developing a reputation for approaching extraordinary claims with a decidedly level head.
Over the course of his career, Dan has had the opportunity to work with and learn from respected researchers in parapsychology and anomalous phenomena, experiences that helped shape the investigative philosophy he brings to the field today. Rather than beginning with the assumption that something is paranormal, Dan looks first for the ordinary explanations: environmental conditions, technology, human perception, mis-identification, and occasionally outright fakery. It's only after those possibilities have been exhausted that things begin to get interesting.
That experience eventually brought Dan to Travel Channel's Paranormal Caught on Camera, where he has spent every season alongside a panel of investigators and researchers examining some of the most compelling—and occasionally downright bizarre—paranormal footage captured around the world. His job isn't simply to declare something a ghost, UFO, cryptid, or unexplained phenomenon. It's to look at the circumstances surrounding the footage, question what the camera appears to have captured, consider what might reasonably explain it, and recognize those rare cases that leave behind more questions than answers.
Today, Paranormal Caught on Camera has introduced Dan and his work to viewers around the world, but television remains only one part of what he does. The investigations continue. So does the research. And after close to 30 years spent in darkened historic buildings, private homes, theaters, museums, and other unusual locations, Dan remains fascinated by the same question that started all of this in the first place: What happens when you've eliminated every reasonable explanation—and something is still there?
